With
Frankfurt approaching quickly there is just enough time to present
two of our key highlights for this season.
On Space and Time by Majid et al
What is the
true nature of space and time? This unique book brings together
world leaders in six disciplines at the cutting edge of the debate:
Andrew Taylor on cosmology, Shahn Majid on particle physics, Roger
Penrose on quantum gravity, Alain Connes on mathematics, Michal
Heller on philosophy, and John Polkinghorne on theology. Together,
they give fresh insights into the deep structure of space and
time.
A History of Film Music by Mervyn Cooke
Mervyn Cooke provides a comprehensive and lively
introduction to the major trends in film scoring from the silent era
to the present day, focusing not only on dominant Hollywood
practices but also offering an international perspective by
including case studies of the national cinemas of the UK, France,
India, Italy, Japan and the early Soviet Union. As an active
composer, the author concludes with ‘behind the scenes’ accounts of
the working practices of today's film composers.
