Working in English
is a short, modular course equally suitable for those in work or preparing for a career in business. It focuses on the day-to-day communication needs of learners and builds confidence and fluency by using every opportunity to get students to carry out tasks in English.

Personal Study Book

The Personal Study Book is a pocket-sized book which provides extra practice material to do out of class and includes an answer key and tapescripts. It focuses on pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar and usage and reinforces reading skills though a variety of additional texts taken from the business world. The Personal Study Book comes with a free Audio CD providing learners with extra pronunciation practice and authentic listening comprehension material.

Teacher's Book

Working in English is accompanied by a comprehensive Teacher's Book which offers guidance and support on how to use all elements of the core course materials. It includes teaching tips, additional background information and extra activities.

The Teacher's Book is packaged with a free CD-ROM that contains extra resources including tests and a link to a special website for Working in English teachers.

The accompanying Video contains
short documentary sequences filmed in the USA and Europe designed to tie in with the themes of the modules and provide authentic input to the course. Notes on how to use the Video and photocopiable tasks are included in the Teacher's Book.

Welcome to Marin and Waterford - an extra sequence to be used as an introduction to the Video' two subject companies.

In this programme you'll find out a little bit about the two companies, their products, their histories, organization and markets.

Please note that this video sequence is supplied free as a sampler on the CD-ROM sold with the Teacher's Book.


Person to person - to be used with Module 1 of the Student's Book.

In this programme we see how relationships develop between people who have and have not met before on visits to the companies.


Phone calls - to be used with Module 2 of the Student's Book.

Here the focus is on getting things done and sorting problems with colleagues, clients and suppliers.


Writing - to be used with Module 3 of the Student's Book.

Sit in on a meeting between a Marin sales person and a retailer and make notes the product spec.


Exchanging information - to be used with Module 4 of the Student's Book.

At a trade fair a Waterford sales manager and a customer discuss the latest products in the Waterford range.
