Cambridge University Press is the printing and publishing house of The University of Cambridge. The Press is a non-profit institution designed to promote the advancement of learning through publication of academic and educational books and journals.

The American Branch of Cambridge University Press is an equal opportunity, at-will employer. Founded in April 1949, it is an integral part of the Press and is not a separate publishing house. It serves North and South America. The American Branch employs a staff of over 285, and generates about a third of the Press's worldwide income. The head office of the American Branch is in New York City, and the distribution center is in West Nyack in suburban New York.

 

Production & Design

 

Project Editor

Cambridge University Press seeks a Project Editor for our busy and dynamic production department, to be responsible for the production of ESL/ELT books and components from manuscript to bound book.

Requirements include at least 2 years' experience overseeing the production of multiple titles with a 2 or 4-c design program, art and photography, managing copyeditors and proofreaders, and liaising with designers, compositors and printers. Sharp project management, communication, and multitasking skills are also required. Successful candidate must be a well-organized, self-motivated team player, dedicated to high-quality publishing. Experience in educational publishing or ESL/ELT is desirable.

Development Editor, ELT

Cambridge University Press seeks Development Editors for its high quality ELT/ESL materials. Primary responsibilities include developing texts, working directly with authors, reviewers, field-testers and marketing staff, and hiring and supervising freelance editors throughout the editorial and production process.

The ideal candidate will have a MA in TESOL, applied/theoretical linguistics, or language education, and experience teaching ESL to adult education students. Publishing experience is preferred. Candidates should also possess strong organizational and communication skills, enthusiasm, flexibility, and team spirit.

Commissioning Editors

Cambridge University Press seeks Commissioning Editors for its world-renowned ELT/ESL materials, for both the grammar and adult courses lists. Primary responsibilities include conducting market research, creating and implementing publishing plans, training and managing editors, managing complex textbook projects and monitoring budgets and schedules.

The ideal candidate will have an MA in TESOL (or other recognized TESOL/TEFL qualification), at least three years’ experience editing ELT/ESL materials, and ELT/ESL teaching experience. Candidates should also have an excellent knowledge of English grammar, strong organizational and communication skills, enthusiasm, flexibility, and team spirit. In-depth knowledge of any of the key markets for American English -- the U.S. and Canada, Asia, or Latin America -- is a plus.

Assistant Operations Manager

Sales Representative

Cambridge University Press seeks an experienced educational sales representative for its ESL/Latin Group, to be based in Los Angeles, and cover 5 counties. This rep will be responsible for sales of Cambridge ESL textbooks and materials into higher education, secondary, adult education, and private language school markets and will also promote the Cambridge Latin Course in the middle school and high school markets.

The ideal candidate will have a BA/BS in a related field, 2+ years of experience in ESL or Foreign Language textbook sales in California, preferably Los Angeles, and familiarity with one or more foreign languages, preferably Spanish. ESL teaching experience is a plus.

Academic Consultant

Cambridge University Press seeks an Academic Consultant to join its ELT (English Language Teaching) international marketing group, primarily to serve as the chief marketing resource in matters of ELT pedagogy, product content, and teacher-training. This individual will serve a key role in the development of high quality, content-informed marketing materials, in addition to designing and delivering teacher-training in various formats.

The ideal candidate will possess ELT teaching and teacher-training experience, strong interpersonal and writing skills, proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint, impeccable attention to detail, and a Bachelor’s degree.
