Web tools — Other applications

This section has links to a couple of other programs which you may find useful whilst designing webpages. If you want to have a really good look at the variety of software out there it's a good idea to visit the TUCOWS site.

Once you get to the site (www.tucows.com), choose a mirror site in your own country for faster downloads, then navigate to the HTML Tools section and have a browse. A lot of the software on the TUCOWS site is free, so it's a good place to start when looking for programs for specific jobs.

Textpad

Textpad is a plain text editor which can handle different sorts of files, making it ideal for editing Javascript, PERL, etc. It has one of the best search-and-replace routines in any program and is perfect for changing the title of all pages in a website (or making any other sort of sitewide change or correction) automatically. You can download a shareware version which will expire after 30 days.

Visit the Textpad website.

The HTML Reference Library

If you really want to learn how webpages are made and how they work (or often don't!) then you will need to understand a little about HTML. The HTML Reference Library is a complete reference of all HTML tags and commands, with commented samples and plenty of pages to copy and adapt. This is freeware.

These are just two of many interesting and useful programs you can find at TUCOWS.
