About Cambridge Storybooks

The English language classroom offers many opportunities for children to learn in a stress-free way through enjoyable activities which are a natural part of childhood (such as storytelling, singing songs and playing games).

Cambridge Storybooks are designed to help teachers extend the range of activities used to engage and motivate young learners, and are an ideal way to support children in the early stages of learning English.

  • Original and varied stories are a joy to read in the classroom and at home
  • Beautiful illustrations by different artists appeal to young learners
  • Simple words, which are repeated frequently, develop children’s listening and speaking skills through storytelling and increase their confidence
  • Rhythm and rhyme help children remember more easily
  • Plays allow children to act out the stories, reinforcing the language they have learned
  • Teacher’s Books and audio resources are available to support teachers using Storybooks with young learners

There are now four levels of Cambridge Storybooks currently available with 18 books at each level

  Level Pages per book
1. Beginner 8 pages
2. Beginner / Elementary 16 pages
3. Elementary 24 pages
4. Pre-intermediate 32 pages

Teacher’s Support

The Teacher’s Books are clear, easy-to-use, and show teachers how to get the most out of using storybooks in the primary classroom.

Each Teacher’s Book covers the entire level and contains a variety of original games and activities which fully exploit material from the Cambridge Storybooks. These activities can be used for a number of needs (for example, to pre-teach and revise vocabulary) and ensure that children learn and enjoy themselves at the same time. Extra activities are suggested for lessons when you have more time available.

The comprehensive notes in the Teacher’s Books also include suggestions on how to use the books for different levels of ability and confidence.

Audio Cassettes and CDs accompany each level of Cambridge Storybooks. They feature all 18 stories for the level read aloud and dramatised. This enables children to hear a variety of different voices, so teachers may prefer to play the recordings instead of reading to the class, particularly when re-reading the story for the second or third time.

Plays

A number of Cambridge Storybooks at Level 3 and 4 are designed to be read as a play. Role playing is an important part of childhood and can help reinforce learning, especially when lots of actions are used. Children will love acting out the stories with each other and performing to their friends and parents as their confidence in English grows.
