Richard Bentley (1662-1742) was a close advisor to the Chancellor of the University on matters relating to the Press: it was his energy and initiative which fuelled the revival of the Press in Cambridge. He was also responsible for the appointment of a body of a senior scholars ('the Curators', later the 'Syndics') to be responsible to the University for the Press's affairs. He later became Regius Professor for Divinity and Master of Trinity College. Spencer Perceval was born in London in 1762 and was educated at Harrow School and Trinity College, Cambridge. Trained as a barrister, his friendship with William Pitt introduced him to political life and he became Prime Minister in 1809. He was shot dead in the lobby of the House of Commons on 11th May 1812 by John Bellingham and is the only British Prime Minister to be assassinated.
