Cambridge proudly takes home two Language Learner Literature awards 2009

Cambridge English Readers were among the winners once again at the 6th Annual Language Learner Literature awards competition. The Extensive Reading Foundation (ERF), an independent, not-for-profit organisation that supports and promotes extensive reading in language education, announced Why? by Philip Prowse and Nelson's Dream by J.M. Newsome as the winners of the Language Learner Literature Award 2009 in the Beginner and Upper-intermediate & Advanced categories respectively.

An international jury chose the winning books, taking into account the Internet votes and comments of students and teachers around the world. Here are some reactions from the readers.

"Pioneering. Serious issues are presented in excellent, understandable prose complemented by superb illustrations. It is a good story which has a human dilemma at the heart of it."

"Nelson's Dream is set in southern Africa. It is a heart-warming love story set against the heart-wrenching background of the impact of HIV/AIDS. It is told warmly and sympathetically, and deals in a sensitive but non-sentimental way with this issue. There is a very strong sense of place and this makes the reader feel part of the narrative. The characters are strongly drawn and the unfolding story has the reader eagerly turning the pages."
