A letter from Philip Prowse
Welcome to Cambridge English Readers
Extensive reading remains the best-kept secret in English language teaching - a way for learners to learn in their own time, at their own pace, without teachers or schools. Sounds too good to be true, doesn't it?
If I told you that there was a magic way for your learners to improve their English enjoyably and without any work, you might want to know more. If I told you that simply by enjoying reading in English your learners would improve their:
- reading skills (Well, that's obvious, isn't it?)
- writing skills (Really!)
- spelling (Yes!)
- vocabulary (I see)
- grammar (Come on, are you serious?)
- listening skills (How?)
- AND speaking skills (Wow!)
you might not believe me.
Yet there is a substantial body of research which supports these claims. The key to success lies in the enjoyment of reading. And now we have a series of readers for the new millennium: contemporary fiction for adults with that 'I couldn't put it down until I had finished it' factor!
I hope you enjoy reading these books as much as I know your students will. Here's to success in reading (and learning English!).
